Immunization Requirements
Meningitis
Effective January 1, 2010 all students who are newly enrolled at the University of North Texas and who will reside in on-campus housing, including greek housing, must provide evidence of vaccination against bacterial meningitis or must qualify for one the two permissible exemptions prior to moving into on-campus housing. Vaccinations must be administered no fewer than 10 days prior to the student's move in date. Students will not be permitted to move into on-campus housing until a full 10 days has passed since the date of the vaccination. Students who have been approved for on-campus housing, but who have not received a vaccination in a timely manner will be expected to make alternate arrangements for housing until the full 10 days have elapsed. Exemption will only be permitted based on evidence that the bacterial meningitis vaccine would be injurious to a student's health based on the professional opinion of a medical practitioner or if the student has refused the vaccination based on a conscientious objection, including religion. The university recommends that all students consider vaccination against bacterial meningitis; however, the new state law only applies to students who are newly enrolled in the university after January 1, 2010.
Recommended Vaccinations
The University of North Texas Student Health and Wellness Center (SHWC) recommends that all students have current immunizations for polio, diptheria, pertussis, tetanus, rubella, mumps, and measles. Consideration should also be given to vaccination against hepatitis A, hepatitis B, and varicella.
